The trench coat was developed as an alternative to the heavy serge greatcoats worn by British and French soldiers in the First World War. Popularised by film stars such as Humphrey Bogart, and Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther films, the trench coat has become a fashion staple, available in many colours, through brands such as Burberry. Makers in recent years have resized trench coats downwards to conform more closely to overcoat sizing, as two coats would rarely be worn together today. Period advertisements from the First World War reveal that the trench coat was sized to wear over the British Warm, to offer water protection when the temperature was cold enough to require the heavier coat, which explains the traditionally generous sizing of trench coats. Although some may feature a removable wool liner for additional warmth, they are usually not as warm as an overcoat. The trench coat was typically worn as a windbreaker or as a rain jacket, and not for sole protection from the cold in winter. The coat often has epaulets that button-close, which were functional in a military context. The coat is belted at the waist with a self-belt, with raglan sleeves ending in cuff straps around the wrists that also buckle, to keep water from running down the forearm when using binoculars in the rain. Traditionally trench coats are double-breasted with 10 front buttons, wide lapels, a storm flap, and pockets that button-close. Originally made from gabardine, a worsted wool fabric waterproofed using lanolin before weaving, the traditional colour of a trench coat was khaki. The first steps have demonstrated good results, and I will describe this methodology in another article. I have thought it interesting to understand better real media and to try a way of modeling the effects via paint dynamic making a good attempt of real variables on these media. To explore the dry media effects with parametric brushes, I have revised initially in 2013, the Pencil Generic Paint Dynamics to adapt better it to other dry media.Īfter working with the variations of Pencil Generic, I have found a good compromise, but the methodology was complex and based only on trial and error. I have also invited Gustavo Deveze and Elle Stone to use my parametric brush set with 2 paint dynamics dedicated exclusively to dry media. In 2013, I began to study emulating dry media with parametric brushes, they are essentially the drawing tools such as pencil, crayon, charcoal and pastel. gih brushes, when we increase/decrease the hardness, is deformed by a blur algorithm: Comparison test between hardness and Force with. It’s easy to increase/decrease the hardness, applied correctly, via own editor or via Tool Options. The stroke of the parametric brush is sharpest and hardest when we use hardness equal to 1 than with the raster brushes,.Some of the advantages of parametric brushes are: It’s also possible create a great variation of the shapes using the different parameters to control the shape and its aspect (radius, spikes, hardness, aspect ratio, angle and spacing). The default shapes are round, square and diamond. This article shows how to use parametric brushes to make convincing emulations of dry media such as pencil, color pencil, charcoal, chalk and pastel. It seems artists haven’t yet realized the full usefulness and versatility of GIMP’s parametric brushes, especially when paired with the proper dynamics. The Parametric Brush and Painting Techniques ¶ Probably the choice, between raster and/or parametric brush, is done by the kind of task, the painter’s style and of his/her artistic background/knowledge/taste, etc. The raster brush is also versatile and has great pictorial qualities, but is more complex to build because it is managed as an image. The parametric brush is a vector brush and it has the great possibilities and flexibility for many different tasks and branches (graphic design, photography, digital painting, etc…) I am writing a dedicated article about the GIMP brushes and I have pasted the short intro about them: The scope of this article mainly demonstrates the quality and possibility of parametric brushes. The one player who fell short in the season series (Lillard) lies at the heart of any hopes to contend in the playoffs. If you take a strict team approach, where quantity trumps quality, Portland’s key players have fared well enough against the Nuggets. The Blazers will need all of those attributes, particularly the rebounding, if they’re to keep pace with Denver. Meanwhile his offensive rebounding went through the roof and he even got in a couple assists. He took far more shots and kept his field goal percentage high, earning an eye-popping 17 points per game. Enes KanterĮnes Kanter also scored and rebounded big versus the Nuggets. He also doubled his free throws and rebounded like an All-Star. He took advantage with 3.3 extra field goal attempts, 1.3 extra three-pointers, and 6.4 points added to his scoring average. Whatever attention their defense devoted to the backcourt left him free to score. Here’s some good news for Portland: Al-Farouq Aminu excelled against the Nuggets. Odds are the Blazers will need more than that to make this a competitive series. If the Blazers had Jusuf Nurkic on the court, with a possibility of battling Nikola Jokic to a near-draw, 41 points combined from the Lillard- McCollum backcourt might be enough to give hope. McCollum shot 37.5% from the arc during the regular season as a whole, only 26.3% against the Nuggets. The glaring exception comes in three-point shooting, a Denver defensive specialty. CJ McCollumĬJ McCollum played to his season averages against Denver. Lillard’s ability to excel against Denver will be one of two major questions the Blazers will need to answer early. The mere idea of Lillard not being amazing-let alone not being himself against rangy, dedicated guards-is enough to cast this series in doubt. If Denver’s defensive attention blunts him, though, the Blazers will have a hard time making it up. Maybe he’s just that good and it’ll carry over. Lillard dialed up the megawattage considerably against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, averaging 33.0 points on 46.1% shooting, 48.1% from the arc. 21.3 points per game still reads as a #1 option, but it’s closer to talented scoring guard than transcendent superstar. 37.1% overall and 28.6% from distance.that’s not the Damian Lillard we’re used to seeing. Lillard played 3.3 more minutes per game against Denver than average, but he registered fewer shots attempts and his percentages from the floor and the arc were miserable. Denver was one of Damian Lillard’s worst matchups this season. The story does not start out promising for Portland. How did they do against each other’s teams, and how did their supporting casts fare? We know Damian Lillard and Nikola Jokic excelled during the regular season and dominated Round 1 of the playoffs. As the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets prepare to clash in the second round of the 2019 NBA Playoffs, let’s take a look at head-to-head statistical matchups for their top rotation players. Of that 60%, about 10% could be run through the flow tester with a special solvent to clean them enough to restore the spray pattern and flow rate. What we found is that the failure rate was in excess of 60% due to contaminants. In the early days, we took the liberty of purchasing a solenoid flow tester to verify the integrity of these solenoids. Those contaminants can, and will, affect the spray pattern and flow of these solenoids. So now we take this new, freshly built transmission and introduce the contaminants from the failure into our new unit. This contamination in the solenoids now remains there. That debris is almost certain to have made its way into the solenoids. When failure occurs, debris, in the way of metals, clutch material, and other contaminants are circulated throughout the transmission. If you have a core that you are building from, more than likely it is there as a core because it failed. Here at SunCoast, this is unacceptable and here is why: It is well documented that the solenoid pack has numerous fail issues. Every other builder either uses the factory solenoid pack again, or a remanufactured one. While the reasons may be obvious to some, allow me to explain it to you. This may be incredibly expensive, but we feel it is an absolute must. SunCoast continues the improvements on the valve body circuit by replacing each solenoid pack with a brand new factory OE Mopar solenoid pack. This new accumulator cover plate is standard on all SunCoast 68RFE builds. SunCoast replaces the factory plate with a thicker, reinforced plate that adds 3 additional holes to allow for additional, stronger mounting screws to keep flex to a minimum. When this deflection occurs, it often times will cause the screws to loosen, and in some instances even break. If you start driving line pressure even higher, you will see this issue with deflection become even more prevalent. It has been shown time and time again that these factory side plates are prone to deflection due to the fact they are made with inferior steel, and a bit thinner than desired. We start with addressing the accumulator cover plate. Here at SunCoast, we take a very scientific approach to how we calibrate these units. It is the single most important item in the transmission. The valve body is like the brain of the transmission. Grey solenoids packs came on all the 2011-2018 68RFE transmissions & will only fit these specific year models. It weighs 165g (5.8oz), which is only 5g heavier than the 50mm. The RF 16mm is a fraction of a millimeter wider and longer than the 50mm, measuring in at 1.6 (D) x 2.7″ (L) / 40.1 x 69.2 mm. If you are familiar with the RF 50mm F1.8 STM, then you basically are already familiar with the build of the RF 16mm F2.8. Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM Build and Handling *The tests and most of the photos that I share as a part of my review cycle have been done with the 45MP Canon EOS R5, which I reviewed here. If you’re in Canada, check them out for a reliable online retailer. Thanks to Camera Canada for getting me a loaner of the RF 16mm F2.8 STM. Will that also be true for you? You can read this text review or watch my video review to help make that decision.įollow Me Patreon | My Newsletter | Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Flickr | 500px But its price point and utility have proven to be significant enough for many people to overlook those flaws and still give it a hearty endorsement. That very much remains true of the RF 16mm, which is unquestionably a flawed lens. Fortunately we can add one more very useful lens to that list, the lens we are here to review today, the Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM.Ĭanon’s engineers have shown that they are capable of producing very sharp wide angle lenses in recent years, though at the cost of certain other optical flaws – namely vignette and distortion. That list includes the Canon RF 35mm F1.8 Macro IS ( my review here) – Canon RF 85mm F2 IS STM when it is on sale ( my review here), and the Canon RF 50mm F1.8 STM. Canon has slowly been addressing this with a new spate of lens releases including some more affordable options, though while there are currently 11 Canon RF prime (fixed focal length) lenses, only about half of those can be had for under $1000…and only three for $500 or less. One of my primary complains has been that in many cases the lenses for the EOS R cameras have been priced higher than the cameras themselves, with few lenses under $1000 USD and the majority over $2000. That means that (for now) we are wholly dependent on Canon to provide us a variety of necessary lenses at the various price points and performance levels that a market that runs from amateurs with minimal budgets to working professionals requires. I think Canon is making a mistake here, personally, but as of September 2022 when I am working on this review, this remains status quo. I’ve had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Canon in the mirrorless space, though, as while I love some of these new cameras, the RF mount remains closed to third party development, which really limits lens choice. Canon has been a new roll in the mirrorless space since with a run of amazing cameras that began with the EOS R5 ( my review here) and EOS R6 ( my review here), and then carrying on to the high end sports model EOS R3 ( my review here) and its APS-C counterpart, the EOS R7 (my review is in the process). In subtidal environments, processes of sediment transport are widely influenced by three factors: initiation of motion (erosion), transport, and deposition. Sediment Transport and Deposition in Subtidal Environments Subtidal environments are important in understanding depositional environments as they are areas where facies are more likely to be preserved. Typically tidal flats are broken into three different sections, which may be abundant or absent in each individual tidal flat: Supratidal, Intertidal, and subtidal (4). Subtidal environments have a wide distribution of facies associated with water depth and tidal and wave energy. Tidal flats or mudflats form where tides alternately flood and expose low areas along the coast (4). Tides are susceptible to change in sea levels. High tide is when water advances to its furthest extent and low tides is when it recedes to its furthest extent. Tides are driven by a combination of gravity fields of the sun and moon in addition to the Coriolis effect. The alternating advance and retreat of seawater along the coast, rivers and lakes are called tides. Shallow water waves occur when the depth is less than 1/20 of a wavelength(1). In shallow waves, the wave base connects with the sea floor changing their motion from orbital to horizontal (1). As the wave moves, water moves forward and up over wave crests and down into the troughs (1). Water move as a reaction to this energy in orbital motions creating the physical components of a wave as seen in Figure 1 (1). Waves are a form of energy that is being transmitted. Interactive factors that influence subtidal environments are tides, waves, and ocean currents. Tides, waves and currents play an important role in shaping and influencing the creation of subtidal environments of our modern coastal beaches, estuaries and lagoons. \)įigure 1: Components of a Wave (Modified by PW from Steven Earle “Physical Geology”.) |
